What did we learn about public policies and the leadership of the State during this pandemic? The gap between countries that did well and those that did badly is measured in lives. This article discusses the performance of Chile and Latin America during the pandemic in health, education, and the economy. At the same time, the future scenario for the region is evaluated, addressing the following questions: What are the prospects for economic recovery? What impact on politics does the pandemic leave us with? Finally, some lessons the pandemic has had for the State are discussed. This debate is relevant for improving the State’s performance so that it may be capable of responding to the next climate, economic, or social crises.
