Abstract

In recent years, open data has become a topic of growing interest. Governments are increasingly implementing initiatives aimed at facilitating access to data related to the functioning of their institutions. Although various initiatives related to open government have been pursued in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, an empirical evaluation of the relationship between those initiatives and the effective implementation of mechanisms for access to open data has not yet been carried out. This article proposes to assess, in an exploratory manner, the state of open data in the Venezuelan national public administration. For that purpose, information provided by international studies is used, as well as analysis of the content and functionalities of open data portals. It is concluded that the Venezuelan public administration still has a long way to go in terms of open data, both in the adoption of this type of initiative and in the development of its existing website, especially when it comes to the use of data on the part of the citizenry.
